CANACONA: Around eight unidentified persons allegedly assaulted a local fisherman and robbed him of cash and dry fish at Canacona Railway Station.
Dinesh Sadolxemkar, who works on a trawler in Ratnagiri in his complaint to the Canacona Police, stated that he was physically assaulted by eight unidentified persons after alighting from the “Netravati Express” in the wee hours of Monday.  After filing a complaint, Dinesh informed Herald that he immediately reported the matter to the station master.
Apart from informing his counterparts in Karwar, the station master did nothing to help him, Dinesh alleged and claimed that the staff at the Canacona Railway Station did not cooperate with him either and even told him that he would land in trouble if he reported the matter to the police.
Sources at Canacona Police Station said they have registered a complaint against eight unknown persons suspected to be from Kerala for harassment, assault and robbery of cash amounting to Rs 11,000 and dry fish worth Rs 40,000.
One of the accused, who were travelling as co-passengers with the complainant in “Netravati Express” started pulling his bag containing dry fish when the train reached Karmali Railway station. All appeared to be in an inebriated condition, Dinesh alleged.
He stated that when he got down at the Canacona Railway Station at 1.30am, the accused assaulted him and fled with his bag full of dry fish worth Rs 40,000 and cash amounting to Rs 11,000.
When contacted, Canacona Railway Station Master seemed unaware of what procedure to be followed in such situations.
Canacona PI Rajendra Prabhudesai said the complaint has been forwarded to Railway Police for investigation.
