PANJIM: Rohan Ahuja emerged champion at All-Goa open rapid chess championship organized by Kreeda Prabhodhini in association with Bambolim Chess Academy, Bardez Taluka Chess Association and Goa Chess Association (GCA) at Kreeda Prabodhini sports hall, Porvorim, Sunday. A total of 196 players participated.
Ameya Audi, Rahul Verma, Niraj Saripalli and Riddhi Zantye settled for the second, third, fourth and fifth place respectively.
Leon Mendonca and Utkarsh Ganpule clinched top honors in the under-7 category while Sanjay Thorat and Madhavan G finished top in the under-9 group. Faiziya Khan and Krystal Fernandes bagged the top spot in the under-11 event while Swera Braganza and Saish Audi clinched the under-15 titles.
Later, Anurag Mhamal was felicitated for becoming Goa’s first chess player to achieve an international master’s title.
Riya Sawant, Krystal Fernandes, Swera Braganza, Riddhi Zantye and Gunjal Chopdekar were the players felicitated for their achievements in chess. Suhas Asnodkar was also felicitated for his contribution to Goan chess.
Chief guest Dilip Parulekar, Minister for Tourism distributed the prizes and lauded Kreeda Prabhodini for promoting chess.
Sandesh Chodnekar proposed the vote of thanks.
