VASCO: The Mormugao Port Trust recently commissioned a road weighbridge at Berth 10 & 11 under revenue sharing basis for a period of 10 years.
MPT Chairman I Jeyakumar inaugurated the newly installed weighbridge in the presence of deputy chairman, heads of Department of MPT and Port users.
This new weighbridge has been installed considering the growth of cargo traffic in the next five years and help in faster evacuation of cargo, which is an important aspect in cargo handling operations in the Port. The weighbridge would be integrated with existing SAP system for easy accountability. This weighbridge will remain open 24×7 for weighing of cargo.
The Mormugao Port has become the first major port in the country that has completed the transition process for up gradation of its quality management system and obtained “Certificate of Approval” on February 6, 2017 to ISO 9001:2015 standard from Indian Register Quality Systems (IRQS), Mumbai.
“The port will ensure that their customers consistently receive high quality services which will be mutually beneficial to all stakeholders and continually strive to improve its processes,” Jeyakumar said.
Meanwhile, MPT officials have informed that a group of 18 IAS trainees from Lal Bahadur Shastri College, Mussorrie, visited the Mormugao Port recently. They were accompanied by Dhiren Banaulikar, joint mamlatdar, Panjim.
They were welcomed by Jeyakumar in the Board Room.
Briefing the team of trainees, Jeyakumar explained in detail about the Port and its connectivity by rivers for iron ore handling and also other cargoes handled in Port.
The visiting trainees later visited the cruise terminal and general cargo berths 10 and 11 for better understanding of port operations.
