RAWANFOND/CANSAULIM: Corps of Signals and Salgaocar FC registered wins in their respective encounters in the GFA U-20 TACA Goa league matches on Wednesday.
While Corps of Signals edged past Churchill Brothers 3-2 at 3MTR ground, Navelim, Salgaocar registered a 9-0 win against Taleigao at Cansaulim ground.
Churchill Brothers started brightly and tested the rival goal in the second minute when Sandeep Subba dribbled past Signals defenders Praful Subar and Biswajit Dutta before his strike was brilliantly saved by keeper Stenjins.
In the fourth minute, Churchill Brothers Nash Pereira curl shot missed the target by whiskers.
At the other end, Signals’ Cyril Dias attempt towards Churchill goal was foiled by Churchill defender Maxon Fernandes.
Signals broke the deadlock in the 16th minute through Dilip Maqngor. However, Churchill Brothers regrouped and levelled terms through Sandeep Subha from the spot kick. Signals defender handled the ball in the box and referee Mecanzie Pereira made no hesitation in pointing towards the dreaded spot.
Corps of Signals had the opportunity to take the lead in the 30th minute, but Cyril Dias shot wide from the goal mouth.
Just before the break, Churchill Brother Maxon Dias’ long range effort was blocked by Jeremia L.
Crossing over, Corps of Signals took the lead in the 52nd minute through Dilip Mangor but the joy was short-lived as Churchill Brothers levelled terms in the very next minute through Leander D’Cunha.
As the match progressed Crops increased the lead by 3-2 which came from the boots of Praful A Surar in the 70th minute.
Churchill Brothers Maxson Fernandes missed two glorious sitters in the 76th and 80th minute respectively as he shot wide in both the occasion.
At Cansaulim ground, Salgaocar FC defeated CSM Taleigao 9-0.
Andeus John opened the scoring for Salgaocar FC in the 2nd minute, while Devendra Murgaokar scored a hat-trick finding the nets in the 17th, 29th and58th minute.
Saeesh Halarnkar and Kaushik Negi scored a brace each for the Greens. Dylan Lawrence hit the final nail in the coffin in the 81st minute.
