PONDA: Ponda Police on Wednesday cracked the daylight robbery case reported at Curti on September 8 with the arrest of Andhra Pradesh native and recovered the stolen jewellery worth Rs 6 lakh and Rs 19,000 in cash.

Addressing media persons, Superintendent of Police South Pankaj Kumar Singh said “Ponda Police managed to solve the robbery within 15 days. The crime was committed by the accused 38-year-old Ratnamala Chandrashekhar Oguru, a native of Nellore, Andhra Pradesh and currently residing at Zingdimoll-Curti in a flat at Curti this month (September 8). The accused had forcibly locked the occupants in the bedroom and bathroom.”
He said, “Police arrested Ratnamala and recovered the stolen jewellery worth Rs 6 lakh and cash amounting to Rs 19,000. The flat owner 29-year-old Sujitha Sudakar Darsi had filed a police complaint in this regard.”
According to Singh, the crime was committed on September 8 at around 4.30 pm when the accused rang the bell and gained entry into Darsi’s flat on first floor of Radiya Yusuf Residency at Naga Masjid, Curti. The accused locked the complainant’s sister-in-law in the bathroom and later also locked Darsi and her minor son in the bedroom. The accused decamped with gold ornaments weighing around 173 gms worth Rs 6.15 lakh and Rs 38,000 in cash all worth Rs 6.53 lakh which were kept inside the safe of the cupboard.
The SP said, “The accused was known to the complainant and was aware that the male members of the complainant’s family were at their native place in Andhra Pradesh and took this opportunity to commit the crime.”
He said the accused has confessed to the crime.
When asked whether any other person had accompanied the accused, he replied in the negative. Police also recovered some gold which was sold by the accused. She spent some cash and was in is process to dispose of the stolen jewellery.
Police registered the case under Section 392 of IPC.
During the course of investigation, several teams were formed and were given tasks to build specific leads with several persons being interrogated.
The SP congratulated the Ponda Police team led by DySP Nelson Albuquerque, assisted by PI Harish Marcaikar, PSI Aditya Velip, PSI Nitesh Kankonkar, LPSI Rashmi Bhaidkar, ASI Jitendra Gaude, head constables Kedar Zalmi and Sameer Patil, constables Amey Goswami, Gauresh Bhartu, and Mayur Zambodkar for solving the case.
