MARGAO: The Goa Football Association will hold the Federation Cup, one of the prestigious football tournaments in the country, from December 20, at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda and Tilak Maidan, Vasco simultaneously.
In preparation of the tournament, the GFA executive committee had a meeting at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Monday evening to discuss the various issues one being the letter from the SAG directing the GFA for payment of Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 for the use of grounds.
GFA President Elvis Gomes confirmed of receiving the SAG letter but was disappointed with the directives on the fees, which he termed as exorbitant and unaffordable.
“In the past, the GFA had shared the percentage of gate collection with the SAG and the same process should be followed now,” explained Gomes.
With GFA in a tight spot, he further disclosed that the association will approach Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar and Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado for their intervention in the matter.
“We will certainly approach the chief minister and urge him to waive off the fee or start again the concept of sharing percentage of gate collection with the SAG,” stated Gomes.
Gomes also clarified that the GFA was in no way involved in the tickets distribution nor organizational matters of the Hero Indian Super League.
