PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said the Goa government is closely monitoring the situation vis-à-vis the Delta Plus variant of COVID-19 after these cases were detected in neighbouring Sindhudurg district in Maharashtra.

Speaking to reporters, Sawant said during the second wave of coronavirus, there were 26 Delta variant cases reported in Goa while, till date not a single Delta Plus variant case has been found in the State.
Sawant said the samples collected from four testing sites – Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bambolim; North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa; South Goa District Hospital and Victor Hospital, both in Margao – have been sent to the Pune laboratory every 15 days routinely.
The Chief Minister also clarified that no separate guidelines have been issued by the Government of India regarding the Delta Plus variant of coronavirus. However, screening at the borders in on, he added.
“We have started with testing and isolation of suspects arriving in Goa from other States,” Sawant said, adding that the concentration will be more on the Sindhudurg border, where surveillance will also be stepped up.
Sawant also said that the State government has approached a few private players to set up laboratories at the borders. Permissions have also been given to private laboratories to set up their facilities along the Goa-Maharashtra border, he said.
