PANJIM: Vedant Halarnekar from Ribandar retained the title following his triumph at the 48th all Goa cycle race, organised by Guirdolim Club, on January 1, at Guirdolim.
Vedant clocked 40.22.03 minutes closely followed by Vincent Godai from Vasco clocking 40.22.05 minutes, who finished second.
Cansaulim’s John D’Costa secured the third place clocking 40.22.06 minutes. Sanat Keni who finished fourth with 40.22.07 minutes was unlucky to miss out on the third place.
The first six participants to cross the finish line were separated by a mere 6 milliseconds.
Dempo SC Youth Development Techinical Director Anju Turambekar was the chief guest and gave the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Guirdolim Club President Claudius D’Costa and other officials and dignitaries.
Cash prizes of Rs 12,000, Rs 10,000, and Rs 8, 000 were awarded along with certificates and trophies to the first three finishers.
In the college category Clavin Carvalho from Don Bosco Oratory College, Panjim secured the first place. The team championship was bagged by Government College Quepem.
A special prize was won by George Vaz for being first amongst contestants from Guirdolim-Chandor.
Julius Colaco bagged first place in the above 45 years category. In total 26 cyclists took part and all completed the 24km race.
