Records in shambles

The birth and death records at the Civil Registrar office in Mapusa are in shambles.

After shifting the office from the Ansabhatt office to the new building they must have left all the files pertaining to the birth and death to the old premises or they don’t want to take the trouble to go through the old files. The birth and deaths records up to 1967 are not available, if one goes for a birth certificate, they give you a ‘Non Availability Certificate’ which is of no use. The reason for issuing the non availability certificate is given that the birth was not registered, this is a blatant lie and in order to obtain a birth certificate one has to go through the Court formalities which cost you around twenty thousand rupees for no fault of the person. When one produces the Baptism Certificate from the church which is the same as that of the Civil Registrar, they can easily issue a new birth certificate and register there instead of sending them to do the court formalities and unnecessarily putting the person in heavy loss. The Government has to look into this matter.
