BETALBATIM: Velsao Sports Cultural Club edged past Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 6-5 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the Martins Cup football tournament, at Betalbatim ground, on Monday. There was no score at full time.
Velsao Sports and Cultural Club should have surged ahead in the very second minute of the match but Anthony Cardoza lost a golden opportunity as his powerful left-footer hit the goalpost of Don Bosco Oratory and the ball went out of play.
At the other end, the goal post came into play once again as Don Bosco Oratory were unlucky to see Joel Camara’s header hit the crosspiece of Velsao Sports and Cultural Club and the ball fell back into play.
Crossing over, the teams provided end-to-end action but to break the deadlock.
In the ensuing penalty shoot-out Velsao Sports and Cultural Club scored through Chadwick Furtado, Anthony Cardoza, Josly Fernandes, Brian Diniz and Brandon Gomes while Don Bosco Oratory converted through Jaison Pinto, Cliff Barretto, Joel Camara, Velito Miranda and Edgar Noronha.
