MAPUSA: The GFA’s Second Division play-off match to be played between St Savio’s Sports Club Calangute and Cuncolim Union Sports Club was called off by the match commissioner Jayendra Nagvekar at Poriat ground, on Wednesday.
While St Savio’s had reported on time for the encounter, Cuncolim Union came to the players check up line at 4.25 p.m. with their line-up. The appointed match referee Chadrashekar Shirodkar declined to play the match due to the late reporting on the part of Cuncolim.
Cuncolim Union has lodged a protest citing that the ground was not fit for playing as there was water logging on several places and the markings also had been washed off due to the heavy rains.
As St Savio’s Calangute, Dempo Juniors and Manora Sports Club all are with four points and are vying for a place in next seasons 1st division, today’s match was extremely crucial.
