Curtorim drug party organiser arrested, booked

MARGAO: The organiser of the suspected drug party in Maina-Curtorim Alston D’Mello has been arrested by Maina Curtorim police on Monday and an offence has been registered against him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. The post mortem report received by the Maina Curtorim police does not mention the cause of death, which will be known only after the viscera analysis report is received from the forensic lab in Hyderabad. 
Various samples were sent to Hyderabad for testing. D’Mello has been arrested under Section 304 of Indian Penal Code, Section 20(B) (ii) (a), Section 27 and 29 and the police have prima facie begun the investigation of the case from the angle of drugs use and overdose. 
Around 12 to 15 youth at D’Mello’s birthday party have been interrogated for facts and events that unfolded at the party. According to police all the youth are from areas in and around Margao and Salcete. 
Investigation also revealed that deceased Paraj Raikar wasn’t an invitee to the party and had gone along with a friend of D’Mello. 
Punishment under the various sections of the law include –Section 304 of IPC which is culpable homicide not amounting to murder, attracts punishment of life or 10 years; Section 20 (b) (ii) (a) for illegal possession of psychotropic substance or any narcotic drug in small quantity for personal consumption which attracts punishment of rigorous imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or a fine which may extend to Rs 20000, or both and sections 27 and 29 which attract punishment for abetment and criminal conspiracy. 
Some politicians from Salcete have been called by the parents and guardians of the invitees of the party to keep their sons out of the case.
