Let’s not ask ourselves how we were born, as we all know how. No thanks to science, but our inquisitive minds as we all once graduated out of school knowledgeable of what was not taught in schools! Our teen-aged hormones then and for the present generation made us restless and became geniuses through our own mental efforts or researches and abilities. The present generation is armed with technological advancements – google, social media, whatsapp and the likes and they claim to have answers to any question!
How we were born? The answer is found in the scriptures Psalm 139:13 that God created us in our mother’s womb. But have you ever asked: Why are we born? There’s more to enjoying the fleeting pleasures of this glamorous and distractible world! It’s high time we got serious too…spiritually!
We were born by His purpose and for His purpose – the Creator! Yes, it all starts with God! The Bible explicitly says, “For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.” (Colossians 1:16 NIV)
Rick Warren in his book, “The Purpose Driven Life” says, “You were made by God and for God – and until you understand that, life will never make sense.”
We may never have known our purpose in life. The normal lifestyle is that we have just been following life’s human cycle. At a certain point of time in our life, we think of aspiring to be someone and that choice is done when we were teenagers or reached adulthood. If one is spiritually inclined, we may realise that God is so kind to us that He doesn’t force us into anything. He gives us a free will to choose: Good or evil. I will harp only on the “good” as there’s so much evil already. The “Good” seek spiritual knowledge. They can attain this knowledge of God only when one fears or reveres God.
We don’t have to fear the Lord for He is always good and is worthy to be praised. Along with the love of God, fear composes the very foundation of life! Until we revere Him, we cannot truly love God; nor can we properly fear Him until we love Him. Obeying His commandments and by doing what He says will give us knowledge of God for He will make His ways known to us.
The following five characteristics of God give us a clear understanding of who God is: 1) God is compassionate 2) God is gracious 3) God is slow to anger 4) God abounds in Love 5) God is Faithful.
All good things flow only from God and bad things from Satan. We often quickly blame God for any unfortunate incident happening in our lives. It’s the devil who plays that part as most of us know that he tempted Adam and Eve at the beginning of creation. It was a perfect world when God created the earth. Satan has taken away our happiness and he comes just to steal our joy, happiness and also to devour and to destroy.
So, the solution to life’s purpose is not to focus on yourself. You must begin with God, your Creator. You exist only because God wills that you exist. You were made by God and for God – and until you understand that, life will never make sense.
It is only through God that we discover our source, our uniqueness, our sense, our resolve, our meaning, and our vocation. Every other part leads to a dead end. For this to happen, we need to have faith – faith as small as a mustard seed that can move mountains.
Faith is a thing of the mind and if you don’t believe that God is in control for your purpose, then you will wallow on the high seas of emptiness, drowning in the currents and drifting further into nothingness. Our goal should not be to become number one, nor is it to follow the dreams of others, as the New Age gurus might ask you to focus on.
I have found my purpose…to follow Him; have you? So, repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near. We do not want to see another Sodom and Gomorrah-types of cities getting burnt by God’s wrath. It’s never too late, your life’s purpose can still be met in God and I can assure you that you will spend the rest of your eternity with Him.
