PONDA: Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik on Tuesday claimed that Goa can export water in exchange for oil as in future the world would face water shortage.
Speaking after the inauguration of the administrative building for Government Agriculture Farm at Codar-Ponda Naik said, “Water will be most valuable commodity like gold and diamond as it will be in great demand. The world will witness a fight over water and so in Goa we should stress on storing rainwater. The State receives over 120 inches of rainfall each year and if we harvest the rainwater by constructing dams in low-lying and hilly areas, we can even export water to foreign countries in exchange for oil and petrol.”

Water Resources Minister Subhash Shirodkar, Director of Agriculture Nevil Alphonso, Ponda Municipal Council Chairperson Ritesh Naik were present among others.
Naik and Shirodkar urged the Zonal Agriculture Office officials to encourage and guide youth as well as employed people to revive agricultural activities on the fallow land in State.
Naik and Shirodkar expressed their commitments to cooperate with each other’s departments in the farmers’ interest.
Naik said, “Agriculture activities will generate income for people and support their living.”
Shirodkar said, “My department is committed to supply water by creating a new source of water resource for agriculture. We don’t know when mining would restart but certainly agriculture activities can help to provide livelihood and survival of people.”
