K’taka excise officials seize smuggled alcohol worth Rs 3.5 lakh

CANACONA: In a recent operation, Karnataka excise officials intercepted a Karnataka-registered truck smuggling alcohol from Goa and seized goods worth around Rs 3.5 lakh.

Acting on a tip-off, Deputy Superintendent of Excise, Belgavi Sub Division, and his team were vigilant at Bijagarni village in the taluka when they intercepted the truck on the road leading from Bijagarni to Kavalewadi villages.

The intercepted truck was found to contain nine different brands of liquor hidden in the back partition of the vehicle. A total of 760 bottles registered for sale in Goa were being illegally transported to Karnataka.
