Salcete had no ties, but many close calls

MARGAO: In Salcete there was no tie in votes in any of the wards of the 30 panchayats whose votes were counted. However, there were quite a few close calls with one pancha getting elected by a margin of a single vote.

MARGAO: In Salcete there was no tie in votes in any of the wards of the 30 panchayats whose votes were counted. However, there were quite a few close calls with one pancha getting elected by a margin of a single vote.
Luis Ubaldino Oliveira was declared elected from ward No 5 of Rachol as he defeated Nancia Niedade Fernandes by a margin of a single vote. Little wonder then that a recount was asked for in this ward but there was no change in the result.
Verna panchayat saw two panchas getting elected by a margin of less than 5 votes. While in Ward No 2 William Barretto defeated Marcus Pereira by 3 votes, in ward No 3 Filomena Pereira won against Maria Moniz by a margin of four votes.
Similarly in Curtorim there were two narrow victories. While Winnie Carvalho e Fernandes won from ward No 10 by defeating Peter Xavier Cardozo by five votes, in Ward No 11 Caetano Alex Dias lost to Nicolav Francisco Paes by just three votes.
In ward No 6 of Loutolim Arvind Bandodkar lost to Alfred Fernandes by a margin of only two votes. Similarly, in ward No 8 of Rumdamoll Davorlim panchayat Murtuza Kuknoor won against former panch Anuradha Moghe by a margin of two votes.
In Ward No 7 of Camurlim village, Elvis Dias was declared elected as he polled four votes more than the nearest rival Michael Sequeira.
While Peter Fernandes won by a margin of 7 votes against Terezinha de Sa e Faria in ward No. 7 of Nagoa village in ward No. 1 of Macasana Lowrence Francisco Almeida defeated Francisco Augusto D’Costa by a margin of five votes.
Former sarpanch Snowkon Gonsalves lost in ward No 6 of Colva to Dylon Gracias by seven votes.
In Ambelim, Joanes Silva won against Rafael Cardozo in ward No 6 by six votes while in ward No 3 Fritzie Percy Fernandes defeated her relative Elfa Heremias Fernandes.
There were close fights for the second position too. In ward No 1 of Assolna Relly Rodrigues was at the second position because she had only one extra vote than Jayant Arolkar who was at the third position. Similarly, in Raia in ward No 7 Raju Krishnamurthy Iyer came at the second position as he had only two more votes than Antonio Inacio Gomes who was at the third position.
Some candidates polled zero votes. These include Ludia Lelis Noronha who got zero vote in ward No 2 of Seraulim and got one vote in ward No 3 of the same village. Similarly, Remedios Arcange Fernandes got zero vote in ward No 2 of Guirdolim panchayat. Natalina Fernandes could poll only one vote in ward No 2 of Colva.
