PANJIM: The Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) on Tuesday submitted to the High Court of Bombay at Goa that transportation of 20 MT of wet waste from the Sonsoddo garbage dump site to the Cacora Solid Waste Management (SWM) facility commenced from September 1.
GWMC managing director Levinson Martins filed a status report giving details of transportation of waste from the jurisdiction of Margao Municipal Council to the Cacora SWM facility. This process should continue until further orders, the Court stated.

As far as the issue of providing fire hydrants at Sonsoddo is concerned, Adv S D Padiyar representing the Margao Municipal Council requested the Court to adjourn the matter to Wednesday stating that necessary work orders have been issued for installing the same. He further said that in all probabilities the work of installing fire hydrants would start from Wednesday onwards.
Accordingly the Court posted the matter for next hearing on September 11.
During the last hearing on the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) writ petition filed by the Citizens For Sonsoddo, the High Court had directed the GWMC to start transporting 20 MT of wet waste from Margao municipal area to the Cacora SWM plant on daily basis so that its treatment can start from September 1.
Meanwhile no intervention in the matter was filed by the Curchorem-Cacora municipal council as decided in its special meeting on Monday. During the meeting, the CCMC had passed a resolution demanding that no garbage from areas other than Quepem, Sanguem, Canacona and Dharbandora will be allowed for treatment at the the newly built Cacora SWM facility.
