MARGAO: The anticipation is soaring for the three-day festival Cheryl Sequeira Memorial Supercross Goa event organised by the Sirvodem Racing Club de Goa scheduled from January 1, 2024, at near the Sewage Treatment Plant Sirvodem, Margao.
The event, under the auspices of FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India), will feature nine SMX races, including SX 1, 2, 3, Indian Expert Group B and C, novice class Group C up to 250cc, Goa local class up to 250cc, women’s class, youth U-10 and U-14, and a special FMX freestyle event on January 3. Remarkably, it marks the first occasion where women riders are expected to participate.

Yogiraj Kamat, the patron of Sirvodem Racing Club de Goa, recognised by the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG), highlighted the unprecedented interest in Supercross. Notably, alongside India’s top riders, a record number of Goan motorcycle riders will be present. In a historic move, women riders will officially showcase their talent, while special events for the Under-10 and Under-14 categories aim to encourage grassroots participation.
Renowned Goan riders, including Zabi Mulla, Alec Sequeira, Abdul Kadar, Tavir Shaikh, Irfan Killerdar, Tusif Shaikh, Swapnil Korgaonkar, Mario Fernandes, Suraj Salgaocar, and Asif Bepari, have already commenced rigorous training. They are benefitting from the mentorship of former National Supercross and Motocross champion Alan Sequeira and former National Supercross champion Javed Shaikh.
For the first time, Goan women riders Olesya Dias, Rita, Ashana Shaikh, and Buran Khan are eager to exhibit their skills. Yogiraj emphasised their commitment to training, highlighting that regular practice is crucial for improvement.
“All of our riders, previously on solo-learning missions, are now receiving essential technical inputs to enhance their riding skills, formulate strategies, and maintain their machines effectively,” revealed Allan, the secretary of Sirvodem Racing Club de Goa.
Allan emphasised the need to encourage new entrants and create space for women in the sport.
The grassroots program includes events for boys under the Under-10 and Under-14 categories.
