Vote-on-Account Bill passed

The Goa legislative assembly on Saturday passed the Vote-on-Account Bill so that the government can function after April 1 till such time the budget proposals are debated and approved.
As the assembly is yet to debate the budget proposals, the Goa Appropriation (Vote-on- Account) Bill 2010 was introduced to provide for the withdrawal of certain sums from and out of the Consolidated Fund of the State required to meet the expenditure listed by the government in the financial statement for five months of the new financial year.
According to the bill which was moved by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, a sum of Rs 2865.56 crores is sought to be appropriated from the Consolidated Fund of the state for services and purposes expressed in the schedule of the Act.
The Vote-on-Account is to meet the estimated expenditure of the government of Goa for five months from April to August 2010.
Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar pointed to the mistakes in the budget documents. Bringing it to the notice of the Speaker, Parrikar said no one should try to take the house for granted.
