PSO remanded to judicial custody
VASCO: Ajay Ashok Anandachi, Police Security Officer (PSO) to a minister, and two others arrested in connection with the assault on two police personnel attached to Vasco police, have been remanded to 14 days judicial custody.
Vasco Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) on Monday rejected the bail plea of PSO Anandachi, Samuel Curis and Pankaj Kavlekar, who allegedly assaulted Vasco Police personnel outside cinema theatre at Vasco.
According to Vasco Police, Anandachi, Curis and Kavlekar had moved a bail application with the JMFC.
It may be recalled that Anandachi, Curis and Kavlekar allegedly created confusion inside the theatre, due to which the theatre manager filed a complaint with Vasco Police late Sunday evening.
Vasco PSI Nikhil Palyekar, Police Constable Santosh Bhatkar, Pradeep Bhagat and other police personnel rushed to the site and during questioning, Anandachi allegedly assaulted Bhatkar and Bhagat with fist blows on their chest.
Youth found hanging
VASCO: A 25-year-old youth from Birla was found hanging to a roof at his residence on Sunday.
According to Verna Police, Shankar Chawan was found hanging to the roof with the help of saree around his neck and the room door was latched from inside.

Rotary Riviera felicitates art teachers
PANJIM: Rotary Club of Panaji Riviera felicitated six teachers from the creative field of art for nurturing the love for art in its various forms in their students on the occasion of Teachers Day.
The awardees were Pandit Sudhakar Karandikar (music-vocals), D’Satish (magic), Mala Gaur (dance), Manab Das (music-sitar), Wilfred Goes (photography), and Vijaykumar Naik (theatre).
The chief guest Siddhivinayak Naik, Member Secretary of Kala Academy presented these artists with a shawl, felicitation plaque and a memento for their dedication towards teaching their disciples.

Sanctions letters for schemes given
PANJIM: An amount of Rs 4.11 crore has been distributed till date to the girls of Shiroda constituency under Ladli Laxmi Scheme. Around 411 have benefited under this scheme said Industries Minister Mahadev N Naik during a function at Shivnathi Hall, Shiroda, to distribute sanction letters under the Laadli Laxmi, Griha Aadhar and Truck Owners schemes. Borim Sarpanch Sanjay Gaude, Panch member Manuel Cruz, Dinesh Raikar and Deepak Naik Borkar also spoke.
BJP-led government has always protected the interest of the common man though the central government is not cooperating, said the Industries Minister. Deepak welcomed and Sanjay Gaude proposed the vote of thanks.
Workshop on natural disasters held
PONDA: As part of community awareness programme, the Ponda Mamlatdar office organised a two-day disaster management workshop for the members of panchayats and municipal council in Ponda taluka.
The workshop was conducted by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Talegaon, Pune-Maharashtra formed by the Central government under National Disaster Management Authority. Ponda Mamlatdar Amul Gaonkar inaugurated the workshop at Queula Panchayat hall. The NDRF team demonstrated various safety measures to be undertaken in the event of natural calamities like fire, floods, earthquakes, etc. The team will demonstrate techniques in rescuing persons from water at Kavlem pond on September 17. Ponda Mamlatdar office informed that though all the 19 panchayats and PMC were informed about the workshop, a majority of the panchayats members remained absent.
Legal literacy camp at Aldona
PANJIM: The Bardez Taluka Legal Services Committee will hold a legal literacy camp at Paris Centre, Aldona, on September 19, at 3.30 pm, in coordination with advocate on free legal aid panel, doctors and Sarpanch of Aldona. The main purpose of this campaign is to inform people about the ADR methods and the benefits of dispute resolution at pre-litigative stage and also health and availability of health service including HIV/AIDS.
CME at GMC on clinical hematology
PANJIM: The Department of Pathology GMC Bambolim, in collaboration with Medical Education Cell is organizing a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme in clinical hematology on September 20 at 3 pm in the GMC library auditorium. The faculty is Dr Vijay Ramanan Director, Clinical Hematology Department and bone marrow and stem cell transplant, Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune and Yashoda Hematology Centre Pune. The CME will be chaired by Dr R G Wiseman Pinto and Dr Savita Chandra. The topics to be discussed include best approach towards interpretation of complete hemogram report. Various normal and abnormal findings of the red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets in the blood, their morphology, counts, indices, etc will also be discussed. Goa Medical Council has given CME accreditation to this programme.
Haryana troupe to perform in Goa
PANJIM: The Directorate of Art & Culture in collaboration with Haryana Kala Parishad will be organizing a cultural programme of folk music and folk dances from Haryana from September 18 to 21, at various Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav mandals and cultural institutions in Goa, under the inter state cultural exchange programme.
Around 25-27 artists from Haryana will present folk dances and music at Panajikar Sarvajanik Mandal, Panjim on September 18 from 3 pm; Kirti Kala Krida Kendra, Sarvan-Bicholim on September 19 from 6.30 pm; Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, Morjim on September 20, from 6.30 pm and at Sai Purva Arts, Carambolim on September 21 from 7 pm.
