VASCO: The anti-encroachment drive carried out by the Mormugao Municipal Council in the vegetable market has failed to make any positive impact. The vegetable vendors continue to do their business by encroaching the additional space and creating inconvenience to the buyers, said one local.

All is not well in the Vasco vegetable market, said a buyer, and it seems that the Mormugao municipality has either turned a blind eye or has been conducting anti-encroachment drives just for an eyewash.
“In a similar drive carried out two days ago by few councillors, some vegetable vendors pretended to abide by the rules but as soon as the councillors left, some vendors put their commodities outside their allotted space and blocked the path of the pedestrians to move in the market,” said another buyer on condition of anonymity.
It is an irony that since past few months several anti-encroachment drives have taken place but the encroachment at the entry point of the vegetable market has remained untouched.
Locals from all over Vasco have been questioning why such drives are being conducted by the MMC when they are unable to clear the encroachments from the vegetable market permanently.
