Every citizen needs to celebrate The Bharat Ratna awarded to for ex-prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayeeji who happens to be a poet and a great political statesman, he ruled the country with exemplary and upholding the Indian constitution. Indian political parties have different ideologies but once they assume power and with the world leaders looking upon Indian as the world’s largest democratic country which gives freedom to all as per the constitution of India prepared by great Indian Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. If we go by the population in religion, should India go by the Islamic states logic of governing the country?
December 25 is the birth of Jesus Christ and time to celebrate for Christians all over the world and Hindu Christians in Goa-India. Great thing about My India is it has moved forward because of those leaders who were secular at that time and power did not go into their head. The only blot still remains is the caste system still prevalent in the political system to appease voters for votes. The electronic media and globalization has brought people from different parts of the state and world together for celebration of the different religions of the world, some explore the country and culture creating a sign of brotherhood during such festivals and also boost tourism to bring in some money. The pledge “Every Indian is my brother and sister” is truly enacted and practiced in words and action. Prime Minister Modiji has taken a bold decision in recommending the name of Atalji to be nominated for the Bharat Ratna. He has declared December 25 as Good Governance Day on the birthday of Atalji and for the Hindu Christian believers it’s the birth of Jesus Christ.
Atalji was a face saving for the BJP party, who at one time had to rule with the biggest coalition parties that made him stand above others, he was their secular mascot and free from corruption.
How does the minority community take this day. I feel we need to take it in a positive way, India ranks in the top 20 list of highly corrupt countries. Catholics should be proud that two events in the Indian calendar one is the feast Our Lady of Assumption celebrated on the August 15 “Independence day”. This day though a public holiday, there is compulsory flag hoisting.
If the intentions of our Prime Minister Modiji to declare Good Governance Day on December 25 is good then we should welcome it, but asking school children/staff to report to school for a special function during the Christmas holidays will be indirectly cutting short or maybe trying to do away, or dilute the inter community celebration spirits will not go well for many and it may not be fitting to call it good governance day for such a tall leader Atalji.
Personally for me the good governance day should have been the day Atal Bihari Vajpayee took oath as the India’s first BJP prime minister. This day started the cleansing of corruption and good governance. Let’s hope the Government does a rethinking.
