MARGAO: Sending a message that she means business, Margao Municipal Chief Officer Deepali Naik on Friday lodged a police complaint against a cloth house for obstructing municipal workers clearing encroachments on the footpath and passage.

The police complaint was lodged after some persons from the shop obstructed and blocked the municipal workers from discharging their lawful duties of removing the plastic sheets from the pavement.

Ms Naik told media persons after the incident that the civic body would continue to crack the whip against encroachments on the footpaths and pavements. “We will not tolerate any acts of obstruction and threatening of our workers discharging their duties,” she warned.

Replying to a question, the Chief Officer said the Civic body would take a call whether to release the confiscated goods valued at Rs 30,000 with a fine or auction them to the bidders.
