O Heraldo on it’s 40th Anniversary. O Heraldo has always been there on the ground for the love and support of the people of Goa and Goans. It also gives us complete news on the ongoing issues in Goa, India and rest of the world. This newspaper with early morning tea and coffee makes the day complete. Many times O Heraldo has gone through difficult times but the support of the citizens of Goa kept the power of writers alive. Thanks to your reporters, journalists, editor and the entire O Heraldo team who work hard in all the seasons to give us the true news .

It’s not an easy job, since the reporter has to put his life at risk, move from one place to another place, reach early and stay late to get the truth. The Citizen Herald page has solved most of the problems of the citizens of Goa. We come to know who have died and when is the next Konkani tiatr through O Heraldo. Even the Herald TV channel is doing well as it’s news besides being in English is also telecast in Roman Konkani, the original language of Goa. This makes us feel proud. Wishing O Heraldo team all the best in the future. May almighty God bless you all and give strength to continue the good work for the love and support of Goa.

NH 366 will pass through Vasco town

Recently Vasco road has been named NH 366. The road which connected to Vasco town from Cortalim was NH 17-A. However, in a recent development the Swatantrapath in the port town has been notified as NH 366. The other road is F L Gomes Road which connects Vasco city. Both the roads were well planned roads during Portuguese rule and these parallel roads help in the traffic flow and also solved parking issues. Vasco Saptah is held on a large scale because of the cross roads which does not disturb FL Gomes road traffic due to thousands of shops on these cross roads.

Notification of this road as NH 366 will bring heavy vehicles from Mormugao port and will be used for coal transportation. As it is people of Vasco are suffering from breathing problems and this will add more pollution to the town. The said road will affect day to day business of small traders on side of Swatantrapath. The said notification has been done without taking any public opinion into account and is against public interest. Government should rethink over the issue and making the town pollution free.

Must bring West Asia war to an end soon

The West Asia war between Israel and Hamas proves to be very deadly and traumatic with countless lives lost or injured on both sides. Without any warning or indication Hamas launched thousands of rockets into Israel which  triggered this all out and catastrophic  war. Many Israelis and Palestinians were taken hostages. Hamas commandos sneaked into Israel  to roundup and apprehend numerous hostages at gun point. Many buildings have been torched with bombs and grenades pounded  and reduced them to rubble,  scores of lives threatened to have been lost.

US backs Israel with arms ammunition, air, sea rockets with American warships moving in the vicinity of the war zone waiting  for the kill on orders. Captured hostages are being used as human shields from imminent executions ,amidst cries and pleas of victims. Some dragged and executed point blank ,whose identities unknown as Israel is a home to countless nationalities, all were Jews migrated from different parts of the world. Bomb shelters were crowded after bombs rained down heavily on civilian population on both sides .Gaza strip being the epicentre of casualties, no place to run for shelter, making it easy target to be overrun by the occupation forces. Askelon south Israel also bore the brunt of casualties. Hospitals are overwhelmed and crowded with the injured and dying patients. A deadly blunder by Hamas to have ventured by rockets into a peaceful Israel. Countless tourists are caught in the cross fire , would  bank on mercy of their respective governments, and waiting to be timely airlifted safely.

This relief of rescue missions will take a very long time until the dust settles and peace returns. Signs of escalation of war seems imminent as 300000 reservist troops are mobilized by Israel to battle it out on the frontlines. Pounding of enemy terrains would have a cascading derailment of economies in the region. Hope egos and heated nerves in the leadership of stakeholders in the warring factions are speedily reigned  in and cooled and to bring this ugly and devastating war to an abrupt end.

Crime in movies

My recent experience watching the movie ‘Jailer’ was quite disappointing. The film fails to convey any positive message or provide entertainment. The antagonist in the movie subjected victims to horrific acts. The portrayal is both disturbing and unacceptable. If film directors continue to promote such violent and criminal scenes, it only perpetuates crime in society.

Actors need to urge writers to create scripts that discourage criminal behaviour. In the past, memorable villains never engaged in such despicable acts, and no one had complaints about them. Good cinema has always been a platform for conveying positive messages to the public, which is what Indian cinema has historically stood for. Movies should provide ‘family-friendly’ entertainment that can be enjoyed with loved ones.

Kudos to Satwik and Chirag

The Indian badminton pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty must be on cloud nine after attaining the numero uno position in the latest BWF World Rankings. The ace duo, who bagged India’s first-ever badminton gold at the Asian Games, climbed two spots to reach the milestone. The distinction makes ‘Sat-Chi’, as fans fondly call them, the first India pair to grab the number one spot in BWF rankings. Satwik and Chirag have been on a roll since 2022, winning five BWF World Tour titles. They are the fourth Indians after Prakash Padukone, Saina Nehwal, and K Srikanth to achieve the top ranking. More power to their elbows!
