AMBELIM: Hosts Ambelim Sports Club beat Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda via the tie-breaker to win the Lourdes Soccer tournament organised by Ambelim Sports Club, At Ambelim ground, recently.
The match started on an aggressive note as a dangerous cross from Samson was cleared by DBO defender Roque Borges in the second minute. Fatorda’s Velton lobbed the ball to Valito but before he could shoot, the DBO goalkeeper Benny was quick enough to collect the ball. In the next minute, Don Bosco could have taken the lead but Joel Colaco’s effort missed the mark.
A bicycle kick from Samson off a pass made by Hayden in the 15th minute was brilliantly saved by the Don Bosco goalkeeper. At the stroke of half time, Ambelim exerted more pressure and were all over the Don Bosco territory but the defence marshalled by their skipper Roque Borges did not allow the hosts to open their account.
Both teams remained goalless during half-time.
Post-resumption, a long range Cletus hit the crossbar and the ball rebounded back into play and off the counter attack, Mackwin’s long clearance travelled to Melvin but he was dispossessed  by Ambelim’s Rayan before any danger could be done. Ambelim earned a free-kick after the substitute Arvind was brought down by Aniston just outside the penalty area.  The resultant kick taken by Samson hit the upright corner of the post and went out of play.
At the end of regulation time, both teams were left goalless. In the resultant tie-breaker, Ambelim converted through Leslie, Perryson, Mackwin and Samson while only Hanslum was on target for Don Bosco.
Edwin Fernandes, Principal of Government ITI, Canacona was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of other dignitaries an match officials.
