MAPUSA: Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao scored a narrow 2-1 win over Goa Police Sports Club in the 11th round match of the GFA’s First Division League, at Duler Stadium, here, on Thursday.
Taleigao broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when Pramod Mardolkar neatly set the ball on platter to Gautam Kankonkar who coolly tapped the ball home.
Post resumption, Goa Police SC finally equalized in the 50th minute through Gaurav Kankonkar.
Taleigao exerted tremendous pressure, however, first Suraj Hadkonkar saw his placing strike from handshaking distance miss the target narrowly and then minutes later Shawyn Fernandes’s long range effort was tipped over the horizontal bar by keeper Francis.
However, the never say die spirit of Taleigao saw them pile on the attack till the very end and were rightfully rewarded deep into stoppage time, when Jayesh Kadam broke the off-side trap to tap in Levino Pereira’s free-kick.
