PONDA: PMC Chief Officer Navnath Naik visited Ponda market and cleared the encroachment by some vendors who were not in list of PMC records.
The action was taken following complaint by some regular vendors who claimed that their regular place of doing business is taken over by some unknown vendors.
The chief Officer also cleared the encroachment by some vendors who were using more space than allotted to them. PMC staff took measurement of such vendors and marked their allotted area with paint mark under his guidance.
The chief officer warned the vendors to pay the pending Sopo dues up to June 10 or else face eviction. It may be recalled that almost Rs 1 crore Sopo tax due is accumulated after vendors stopped Sopo payment in 2013- 2014 till date protesting the hike in sopo rates by Council. However, after forming scheme to clear the four year dues by PMC some vendors having shown willingness while some are yet to clear the dues.
