PORVORIM: The Socorro Panchayat conducted a site inspection on Monday after issuing notices to eight persons for “rampant filling” of low lying fields in Serula Comunidade.
Recently, the panchayat has been receiving multiple complaints against the construction of illegal structures and land filling activities in Serula Comunidade fields.
Serula gaonkars and other forums have asked the panchayat and government to keep a tab on the mushrooming illegal structures in Serula Comunidade fields.
Socorro Sarpanch Sandeep Vazarkar called for the inspection after one of the gaonkars consistently raised the issue of illegal constructions and filling of the fields.
In the gram sabha held on February 24, the panchayat decided to send ‘stop work’ notices to the people carrying out illegal construction and carrying out business illegally on either sides of the National Highway 17, at Porvorim.
“We have inspected the eight structures in the fields of Serula Comunidade. This is the first part and we will be inspecting few more shortly. All the structures are illegal and there are no documents that could be furnished at the time of the inspection. The finding of the inspection will be placed and discussed at the panchayat’s body meeting and then accordingly they will issue show cause notices,” Vazarkar said.
