VASCO: Claiming to have named one accused in the brutal murder of his wife, Maximiano Paes has stated that he is also able to identify the accused if they are arrested and produced before him.
“After regaining my memory, I provided all details to the police. There were three persons who have committed the crime and I have even named the culprit who was a minor at the time of the incident. I also informed the police that I can identify them if the police can produce them before me,” said Maximiano.
Added his son, George, “My father, who had lost his memory due to head injuries he had sustained in the brutal attack, gradually began to recollect events on that fateful day. In May 2012, his gave a fresh statement to the police providing details of the incident and about the culprits. On July 18, 2012, his statement was recorded in the presence of a Special Judicial Magistrate under Section 164 of CrPC.”
“Despite giving a fresh statement before the Magistrate, the police has failed to nab the culprits mentioned in the statement,” George added.
It now appears that the police seem to be protecting criminals by citing various sections and Supreme Court judgements, while the victims are harassed and have to fight for justice,” he said.
When contacted, Mormugao DySP Laurence D’Souza said they are awaiting an expert report from the GMC doctors and claimed that investigations in the case were still in progress.
