CANACONA: Canacona Congress leaders have stepped up their door-to-door campaign to win back the traditional Congress voters from municipal areas.
Congress leaders led by former MLA Isidore Fernandes and ZP Daya Pagui roped in Councillor Champa Ashok Pagui into the Congress-fold in the presence of Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) Chairperson Mahadev Dessai on Wednesday.
Frantic canvassing has been taken up in Canacona municipal areas to woo back the electorate to vote for Congress party in the Lok Sabha elections, as youth led by NSUI leader Vaibhav Phaldessai, besides other leaders Janardhan Bhandari, councillors Simon Rebelo and Ratnakar Dhuri, NCP Block secretary Vivek Naik Gaunkar were part of the canvassing team.
Voters are being individually approached to convince the electorate not to fall prey to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s gimmicks.
“The BJP has made considerable dent in Salcete’s traditional Congress vote bank, but voters of Canconca will fill the gap to ensure Reginald’s win,” informed Fernandes.
In a bid to cover as many voters in the area, various teams of Congress workers campaigned in different directions, with at least two groups led by Fernandes and Daya covering Cotigao, Gaondongrim, Poinguinim and Shristhal.

“It is a joint effort to garner votes from municipal areas and people have been expressing their faith in Congress’s secularism policy,” Fernandes told Herald.
