PANJIM: Soon, students securing admissions in educational institutions will not be asked to mandatorily produce residence certificates provided they have studied in Goa for a considerable period of time.
The State government on Tuesday accepted its committee’s recommendation that suggested dropping the residence certificate as pre-condition for admissions except in cases where students took a major gap in studies.
In its interim report, the committee on ‘simplification of procedures for effective delivery of public service’ maintained that certificate should not be compulsory for such students, however, school academic record or any related document is a must to support their claim of residence.
“The government accepts the recommendation and has decided that for the purpose of admission in educational institutions, the student who has studied continuously in Goa for the required period and it is established from the school record that he/she is continuously resident of Goa, it is not required to produce RC from the mamlatdar,” an extract of the circular issued by Revenue-I reads as.
“In case there is any major break in the education, however the residence is continued in Goa, the student is required to produce the documentary evidence or certificate from the mamlatdar that during the break period he/she was in Goa and s/he fulfilled requirement of continuous residence in Goa for required period,” it further reads.
