Jeweller, his wife and daughter’s in-law killed in Vashi mishap

PORVORIM: A pilgrimage ended in tragedy for two families from Mapusa, when a 59-year-old Mapusa-based jeweller, his wife and their daughter’s mother-in-law were killed, while two other family members were injured in an accident at Assangao-Vashi in Maharashtra on Sunday evening.
According to reports, Prakash Shirodkar (59), his wife Prafulla (55), both from Gaunsawaddo-Mapusa, along with their daughter Pranjali Lotlikar, Pranjali’s husband, Sandeep, and his mother Rakhi Lotlikar (64) of Housing Board, Mapusa, had gone to visit Prakash’s younger daughter, Parinda, in Mumbai.
Thereafter, Prakash and other family members decided to proceed to Shirdi to offer prayers to Sai Baba in two cars.
While returning from Shirdi, they were proceeding towards Dombivali, when one car transporting Prakash, Prafulla, Rakhi, Parinda and Palak (5), the daughter of elder sister Pranjali, met with an accident at Vashi.
Parinda, who was driving the car, lost control of the vehicle while attempting to avoid a collision with an oncoming car and dashed against a roadside tree. Prakash, who was seated in front, along with Prafulla and Rakhi, who were in the rear seat, died on the spot while Parinda and Palak sustained minor injuries.
The bodies were brought to Goa and had been preserved in the morgue. The final rites of Rakhi will be held at 10 am, while the final rites of Prakash and his wife Prafulla will be held at 4.30 pm on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, news of the tragedy shocked Mapusa town on Monday morning, as Prakash was well-known jeweller in the Mapusa market.
Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza recalled Prakash Shirodkar as a “truly nice human being.”
“It is tragic that both he and his wife died in the car accident. My heartfelt condolences go to his family and also to Rakhi’s family,” said D’Souza.
Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Sandeep Falari informed Herald that Prakash Shirodkar owned a jewellery shop in Mapusa market.
“I knew him personally. He was a wonderful person and I will miss him. May the soul of Parkash, his wife Prafulla and Rakhi rest in peace,” said Falari.
