PANJIM: Goan students who have completed their Bachelors in Dental Surgery (BDS) from outside the State and have applied for the MDS course at Goa Dental College (GDC) for the academic year 2018-19 have demanded that they should be added under the State quota merit list being domiciles of the State.
“We are domiciles of Goa since birth. Our State has only one dental college with 17 seats for the general category for the BDS course. We, belonging to the general category failed to get admission for BDS in GDC and hence we chose to answer exams in other States by which we got admission in private colleges in Karnataka,” said Dr Nilima, an applicant for the PG admissions at Goa Dental College.
She added, “We completed our BDS by paying a huge amount of fees so that we can come back to our home State for better opportunities. According to the rules of GDC only students who passed out from their own institution are preferred for the MDS course, which makes our ranks and our efforts completely worthless.”
Another applicant, Dr Danveera Raut Dessai said, “What are we supposed to do, even after having a recognised degree why should we suffer, isn’t this injustice? There are many more like us who are suffering.”
Dr Soniya Lotlikar who has also applied for the MDS course under the central category demanded that the rules need to be fair for all stating that even they are the children of this State.
“We are being told that only the Chief Minister can decide and change the rules and he not being here, they cannot help. We will have to waste an entire year for the decision on this change of this faulty rule,” she added.
