MARGAO: Congress’ South Goa Lok Sabha candidate Capt Viriato Fernandes on Tuesday accused both the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant of twisting and misinterpreting certain portions of his speech on the Constitution.
Capt Viriato challenged the Modi and Sawant for open debate on various issues.

The South Goa INDIA alliance candidate he said that PM should speak on defection in Goa, wherein eight MLAs of Congress after defection joined the BJP, which is a murder of Constitution. He said the PM should clarify if the statement by their top leader about rewriting the Constitution is not unconstitutional or not. Modi has to make a statement on law and order and Mhadei issue.
“What about all the promises given by PM to people of Goa on unemployment, coal hub and three linear projects; the BJP is turning Goa into a coal hub. I want to ask the PM that NITI Ayog recently declared its report wherein it is mentioned that Goa has the highest unemployment rate. The PM should speak on that and also on high inflation,” demanded Capt Viriato.
Taking a dig at CM Sawant, Capt Viriato said, “Dear Chief Minister, don’t try to twist and turn selective words from my speech to get political mileage and spread venom. I am ready for an open debate on what I spoke as well as issues of destruction of identity of Goa, rise in unemployment, inflation, crimes and corruption under BJP government.”
Capt Viriato said that he is ready for open debate on murder of Constitution, corruption, high inflation, mass defections, unemployment, crime, atrocities on women and child, destruction of environment under BJP regime in last 10 years and all other issues concerning Goa and Goans.
