Hosts Vignesh Sports Club Bicholim won the inter-ward football tournament jointly organised by Bicholim Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal and Vignesh Sports Club. In the finals Vignesh SC scored a narrow 5-4 win over Krish Sports Club, Bicholim at Shivaji Maharaj grounds Bicholim. In the first half, the teams were locked 3-3.
Vismay opened the account for Vignesh in the 16th minute through a header off a floater from Dattaguru. Three minutes later, Naresh of Krish equalized off a goalmouth melee.
Stunned by the equaliser from Krish, Vignesh went into attack. Dinesh fired a powerful 25-yarder past Krish goalkeeper, while Ramnath netted off a cross from Felix for Vignesh. Nasir and Adik returned for Krish before the break 3-3.
Changing the sides, Imtiaz scored for Krish, while Walter and Dinesh rounded off the tally with a goal each for Vignesh 5-4.
Chief guest Brahmanand Sankhwalkar, Arjuna awardee, gave away the prizes in the presence of GFA vice-president and Commissioner of Excise, Sandip Jaques, Nicholas Pereira,ex-international footballer, Satish Gaonkar, president of Bicholim Municipal Council, Shivram Falari, president of Bicholim Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, and Mukesh Mahatme.
Naresh Kadkade welcomed and compered. Ramanand Natekar proposed the vote of thanks.
