Corlim youth succumbs to injuries
OLD GOA: A youth from Corlim, Vijaynath Gautam, died of injuries he sustained in a road mishap near the Sao Pedro church in Bainguinim on May 20.
According to Old Goa police, the incident took place at about 10.10 pm when Vincent D’Souza was driving a Maruti car (GA-07-C-8280) from Panjim to Old Goa and Vijaynath Gautam (23) from Corlim was in the car with him. When they reached near Sao Pedro Church, Vincent lost control of the car and crashed into a a compound wall, causing serious injuries to Vijaynath.
Gautam succumbed to his injuries while undergoing medical treatment at GMC Bambolim. The driver also sustained injuries in the road mishap.
The Old Goa Police has registered the offence under Sections 279, 337, 304-A IPC and is investigating the case.
Thefts on interstate buses
PANJIM: Two Goan passengers travelling in separate inter-state buses have complaint that valuables worth two lakh rupees were stolen.
The first incident was reported earlier this month when unidentified persons decamped with a trolley bag that contained gadgets and documents, worth Rs 1.50 lakh belonging to Benaulim resident Manoj Mishra. As per his complaint, the bag was kept in the cabin of Paulo Travels bus GA-07-F-3923 from where it has gone missing.
In another theft case reported in Neeta Travel bus MH-04-FK-5859, another trolley bag also containing electronic articles, costing Rs 50,000 was stolen.
The complainant Xavier Mathais from Chicalim has accused the bus’ driver and cleaner for the offence.
Panjim police have registered two separate FIRs under section 379 (theft) of IPC against the accused.
Zuari Bridge closure on May 25
PANJIM: The Zuari Bridge will remain closed for traffic on May 25, from 6 am to 9 am for the purpose of conducting deck level checking.
Ferry boats for transportation of vehicle and pedestrians will be made available during closure time. So also, all traffic will be diverted via Borim Bridge at Cortalim junction and ferry point.
Sirlim VP gram sabha on May 25
MARGAO: The gram sabha of Drampur-Sirlim Village Panchayat will be held on May 25 at 9.30 am at the Village Panchayat hall.
Amongst other issues, the gram sabha will discuss and approve the Budget for 2014-15 and would consider proposals received from the gram sabha members for development works.
Admissions open to Daddy’s Home
MARGAO: Admissions to Daddy’s Home ~ special school for special children and slow learners, will be open from this week at Gogol, Margao from 9 am to midday. Transport, boarding and other facilities will be available, states a press note issued by Fr Valmiki.
Sankalp Din on May 25
PANJIM: The Tribal Welfare Department is organizing a programme titled ‘Sankalp Din’ on May 25, at Sungrace Gardens, Betoda, Ponda, with the objective to strengthen the development process of the ST people in Goa through information and awareness of rights of ST people.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will be the chief guest and Minister for Tribal Welfare, Ramesh Tawadkar will preside.
Mahadev Narayan Naik, Minister for Industries and Social Welfare, Ganesh Gaonkar, MLA-Sanvordem and Chairperson, Goa State Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation Ltd and Anant Shirvoikar, Chairperson, Goa Commission for SC/ST will also be present.
Salgaocar HSS results
PANJIM: The Ramacrisna Madeva Salgaocar Higher Secondary School achieved a pass percentage of 88.41per cent in general and vocational stream at the Goa Board HSSC March 2014 examination.
In general stream, the pass percentage is 86.63 per cent and in vocational stream is 93.44 per cent. In general stream 18 students passed in Distinction, 45 in First Class, 74 in Second Class and 12 in Pass Class. In vocational stream 1 student passed in Distinction, 25 in First Class, 30 in Second Class and 1 in Pass Class.
Gaurav Shewakramani secured 91.83 per cent in general stream.
