MAPUSA: Guardian Angel Sports Club registered a comfortable 2-0 win over Churchill Brothers Sports Club in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Friday.
Both the teams having lost their last GPL match started aggressively where Churchill Brothers and Guardian Angel SC coaches brought four changes in their starting XI.
Earlier in the match, Guardian Angel SC’s Napoleon Morangthem strike was blocked by Churchill Brothers defender, while at the other end, Churchill Brothers’ Jyothish U saw his hot-blooded shot being blocked by Guardian Angel SC’s goalkeeper Oswin Rodrigues.
As the match progressed, Guardian Angel SC’s Napoleon set up Moirangthem Malemnganba whose strike came off the goal post.
Finally in the 21st minute, Guardian Angel SC surged ahead. A brilliant curling cross by Preston Castano from the left flank was superbly connected by Fedrich Fernandes into the back of the nylons, 1-0.
In the 39th minute, a curling shot by Preston was paired to safety by Churchill Brothers goalkeeper Abhay Bisht, while at the other end Churchill Brothers Danish Aribam saw his rasping left footer come of the goal post.
On crossing ends, Churchill Brothers did come with some attacks but Danish Aribam and Afdal Varikkodan were given very little space by Guardian Angel SC’s stopper back Nitesh Hazra and Suman Lepcha to have a clear look at the goal.
Guardian Angel SC doubled their lead in the 56th minute when opportunist Fedrich Fernandes encashing on a defensive lapse drove the ball into the goal to make it 2-0 and complete his brace.
In the 80th minute, Guardian Angel SC almost netted their third goal when Preston Castano collected the cross from Morangthem and drilled a power-packed right footer which hit the rival defender before going for a corner.
