MAPUSA, SEPT 21
Vishnu Mandraker netted his seventh goal of the campaign to earn BAFF a vital equalizer as they drew 1-1 with St Christopher Sports Club in GFA’s Third Division at St Christopher ground, Tivim on Tuesday. The score was goalless at the breather.
As the original match had been abandoned after 17 minutes due to heavy rain, only the remaining 73 minutes had to be played.
Before the match kicked off, BAFF launched a protest as two players playing for the opposition were not playing in the initial match. As a result, the Match Commissioner asked the St Christopher bench to make two substitutions in order to let the new players play.
Bernard Ferrao came in for Vincent Rodrigues and Hudson Peters came in for Harrephomg Zinmick.
BAFF could have had at least half a dozen goals, if not for their woeful finishing in front of the goal.
In the 83rd minute, against the run of play, Alex Fernandes popped up to give St Christopher the lead as the opposition was caught watching.
BAFF’s reply came four minutes later through the boots of Vishnu.
With a round left to play BAFF lead the group with 11 points but hot on their heels are FC de Sanqulim and YS Colvale who both have nine points each.
In another match at Chapora ground, Chapora Yuvak Sangh drew 2-2 with Arpora Sporting Club. Dattaraj Mulwankar scored a brace for Chapora with a goal in each half, while Rajeskh Pombersaker hit a first half brace for Arpora.
