DMG receives 28 bids for four mining blocks put for e-auction

Monte-de-Sirigao Mineral Block receives a maximum 10 bids; names of bidders who clear technical bids will be declared on Dec 14: Director of Mines and Geology

PANJIM: Twenty-eight bids from 10 companies have been received for four iron ore mining blocks, put for e-auction by the Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG). The Monte-de-Sirigao Mineral Block, previously owned by M/s Rajaram Bandekar, has received maximum number of 10 bids.

The e-auction of the blocks will commence from December 15 with names of successful bidders expected to be out latest by December 21. The technical bids were opened on Tuesday.

The DMG, through Metal Scrap Trading Corporation (MSTC) had invited tender to e-auction four mining blocks- Mulgao, Sirigao-Mayem and Monte-de-Sirigao all in Bicholim taluka and Kalay mine in Sanguem. These mines were previously operated by mining firms such as M/s Narvekar, M/s Rajaram Bandekar, M/s Chowgule & Co Pvt Ltd and Sesa Mining Corporation. 

Though, 51 bid documents were purchased only, the DMG received only 28 bids. 

Speaking to media persons, Director of Mines and Geology Suresh Shanbhogue said the technical bids were opened in presence of the bidders and evaluation of bid document has commenced and will continue till December 13. “The bid documents were submitted online as well as offline and the same have been tallied,” he said.

Block I – Bicholim-Mulgao block received five bids, Block II- Shirgao-Mayem Mineral Block received seven bids, Block III- Monte-de-Sirigao Mineral Block in Bicholim received 10 bids, while Block IV- Kalay mineral block in Sanguem received six bids. 

Shanbhogue said the names of bidders, who clear technical bids, will be announced on December 14.  “After that their initial price offer will be opened. Five top bidders of each block will be qualified for the auction that will commence from December 15,” he said. 

The director said the entire auction process will be completed by December 21. “The names of the successful bidders will be out by December 21,” he said. 

The four mining blocks put for auction have approximately 135 million tonnes of ore reserve.
