QUEPEM: Most of the mining machineries have been removed following State government’s instruction to the mine owners for the same. Rainwater was being pumped out from the mine which got stalled due to removal of machinery.

All the mines are flooded and there is a possibility of mudslides in Sanvordem village panchayat area and Costi mines.
Reportedly, SC order said that no one can touch anything, which is there in the leased area but Goa Government said the lease would be auctioned. People are in doubts about the future of mining dependents looking at the situation.
The Mining Department has recently issued notices to 88 mine tenants to remove their machineries and equipments from the leased iron ore mines.
The mine owners have moved machinery as a result, the issue of water accumulation in the mines during the rainy season has come to the fore which poses danger to the surrounding villages.
Anup Naik, one of the mining dependents from Costi said, “Whatever decision is taken it should not affect mining dependents. Goa government should take responsibility to secure future of mining dependents.”
Mahadev Govekar said “Now, these mining dependents are facing lot problems and their condition has slipped from bad to worse in last decade. We don’t know when this problem will solve,” said Govekar.
