MARGAO: Former Margao Municipal Council Chairperson Savio Coutinho strongly condemned the “pressure and intimidating tactics” adopted by MMC and alleged that a daily wage worker was dropped from the list of workers issued on Tuesday only because he had participated in the protest on Monday.
In a press note issued here, Coutinho said the worker was admitted to Goa Medical College in January and after discharge worked for 11 days in March and yet his name was dropped from the list issued on March 12.
The labourer Laxman Zamune was admitted to GMC for an infection of his finger that festered after it was punctured by a needle while handling the waste at Sonsoddo.
However, after the meeting with the workers Laxman brought it to the notice of Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik that his name was dropped from the list of workers and the chief officer immediately assured him that the mistake would be rectified.
Meanwhile, Municipal Chairperson Dr Babita Prabhudessai strongly rebuked the daily wage workers for involving Coutinho in the issue.
