PANJIM: National Students Union of India (NSUI), Goa Unit, on Sunday alleged that the Goa University Students Council (GUSC) ruled by the Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) has not worked for the students and has neither utilised nor used any budget allotted to the students of the university.
Addressing the media, NSUI State President Ahraz Mulla said, “We had put up an RTI and we found that there is no designated budget allotted to the Goa University Student Council and that records show no requisition of funds by GUSC for the academic year 2017-2018.”
He said, “The above said records clearly indicate that the Goa University Students Council has not worked for the students since they have not used any budget that is being allotted to the students. We strongly believe that for the welfare of the students of Goa and for the betterment of the future of our country, there has to be a strong Goa University Student Council to solve issues of the students and make policy changes according to the needs of the current students.”
He further said that they believe that the previous council has not been able to help the students by demanding for funds and has failed to use any funds for the betterment of the student community because they were never the representatives of the students and were not directly elected by the students.
“Over the past years we have seen the councils to be non-functional and the very fact that no funds were utilized by the Goa University Student Council for the year 2017-2018 proves the non-functional student council,” he added.
