VASCO: Vasco Police on Sunday arrested a 20-year-old youth for allegedly hurting religious sentiments by posting objectionable pictures of the religious deities and figures on social media with abusive words. The youth has been remanded to three days police custody.
Addressing media persons, Vasco PI Nilesh Rane said, “According to complaints , the youth had allegedly posted various derogatory photos of religious deities and figures on social media that hurt many religious sentiments.”
Rane said the accused was produced before JMFC.
The youth has been booked under Sections 153(A), 295 (A), 298, 504 and 505 of IPC.
On Monday, a group from a religious faith from Vasco submitted a representation to Vasco Police demanding strict action against the youth for posting derogatory photos and videos of the religious faith on social media which subsequently went viral.
On Monday evening religious groups protested outside Mormugao Municipal Council demanding strict action against the youth for his “unacceptable” actions.
Vasco Police sources informed that they had asked for five days remand, but the court granted three days police remand.
