CANACONA: The Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) of Shristhal village submitted a memorandum to their local MLA, Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, requesting the construction of a service road. This service road would provide a suitable space for local vegetable vendors to conduct their businesses.
The ongoing widening of National Highway 66 in the area has caused significant inconvenience to these local vendors, who traditionally sold their homegrown vegetables by the roadside. Many residents from Gulem and surrounding areas depend on this practice to sell their produce. The BMC emphasised the importance of providing easy access to potential customers for these local farmers, a significant number of whom are women. The service road would not only ease their access to customers but also protect and enhance the earning potential of the local vegetable vendors. The memorandum was handed over to their local MLA by members of the Shristhal BMC, including Shirish Pai, Anjali Gaonkar, Ganesh Gaonkar, Akshada Velip, and Nilesh Gaonkar. The Sarpanch of the village, Sejal Gaonkar, was also present.
