MARGAO: The Aquem-Baixo village panchayat at its Sunday gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Sharon Quadros, resolved to make it mandatory to have a garbage disposal site to segregate garbage at the projects coming up in the village.
Resolution was taken that construction of projects/households coming up in village should have a place/site to segregate garbage and only then a construction licence be issued. It was resolved that no project without proper garbage disposal site be issued construction licence.
The villagers were also given a talk on awareness of garbage disposal and that it was the need of the hour that every household has a proper site for garbage disposal and segregation. Villagers were also informed that the panchayat does not have a site for disposal of garbage with the sarpanch requesting the villagers’ to segregate and dispose their own garbage.
In reply to query by gram sabha member over illegal construction, Quadros informed that the issue was discussed at the last gram sabha and necessary action in the respect would be taken by panchayat body as per law. Sarpanch also requested the locals to register their water wells in villages and tankers supplying water as per directives from the government. The minutes of the previous gram sabha were read and confirmed. There was no development proposal received from the villagers for the meeting.
