PANJIM: Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Desai on Monday supported the demand made by mining truck owners to waive of various taxes, including green tax.
Speaking to mediapersons, Phal Desai said that the various taxes including hike in insurance premiums had overburdened the truck owners.

He hinted that the government will reduce green tax for mining trucks which is around Rs 18,000 per annum. The green tax is imposed on vehicles which are more than 15 years old, he said adding that relaxation should be given to only those trucks which were not in business after the closure of mining activity. About 25 per cent mining truck operators had shifted to other business and they will have to pay all taxes, he added.
The mining truck operators on Sunday had demanded to waive of taxes failing which they had threatened to stop e-auction of iron ore blocks.
The Minister said that the withdrawal of export duty on low grade iron ore have paved way for the government to e-auction ore blocks and to lift dumps lying outside different leases.
