BAMBOLIM: Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim, emerged victorious against the defending champions Don Bosco College, Panjim 2-0 via tie-breaker after full-time score was 0-0 in a fiercely contested and visually captivating final of Goa University Inter-Collegiate Football Women Championship organised by Goa University at the SAG Athletics Stadium, Bambolim, recently.
As the match commenced, the formidable Rosary team adopted an aggressive strategy, showcasing impressive skills, while Don Bosco College focused on thwarting their attempts through a robust defensive strategy. Consequently, the first half concluded with 0-0 draw, despite several missed opportunities from Rosary College, as their shots either missed the target or struck the goalposts.
With the onset of the second half, the intensity and competitiveness escalated as both teams aimed for victory. Don Bosco continued to defend against the strong Rosary team, while Rosary attackers also squandered chances to score.
Notably, Don Bosco College’s goalkeeper made several crucial saves. Throughout the match, Don Bosco College struggled to mount any significant attacks, remaining primarily focused on defence, resulting in a goalless draw.
In the resultant tie-breaker, the first shot from Flani Costa was saved by Rosary goalkeeper Ria Rajesh, and the initial attempt from Ria Rajesh of Rosary College was also thwarted by Don Bosco College goalkeeper, Flani Costa.
The second shot from Don Bosco College player Blessica Fernandes was saved by goalkeeper Ria, while the second player of Rosary College Fatima Braganza, successfully scored, giving Rosary College, Navelim a 1-0 lead.
The third player from Don Bosco College, Rhea Pires, failed to hit the target, while Rosary’s third player, Swellen Fernandes, successfully scored, extending their lead to 2-0. The fourth player from Don Bosco, Kanviksha Rekdo, also missed the opportunity to score, ultimately leading to Rosary’s victory with a final score of 2-0.
Best Player of the Championship was awarded to Vinoshka Fernandes of Rosary College of Commerce and Arts for being the highest scorer of the championship with five goals and also maximum contribution to the team success through various skills.
Sports Authority of Goa football coach chief guest Maymol Rocky along with guest of honour College Director of Physical Education and Sports, Don Bosco College Ryan Pereira and Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University Balachandra Jadar presented medals and trophies to the finalists.
