The Goa government informed the Bombay High Court at Goa that the process to appoint a new Lokayukta is in progress and will be completed within six weeks. The court accepted the assurance and disposed of the petition filed by TMC leader Trajano D’Mello.
The Lokayukta’s office has been non-functional since December 2024, two months after Justice (retd) Ambadas Joshi’s tenure ended, leaving around 20 corruption cases pending. The Directorate of Vigilance had requested the Chief Secretary to initiate candidate shortlisting in February 2025, but no progress was made until now.

Currently, three retired judges from Goa, West Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh have been proposed for the post. A three-member committee, including Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Opposition Leader Yuri Alemao, will finalise the appointment once a suitable candidate is identified.
