Every 25 years or so new ideas come in. The ones running the game are in the comfort zone. Since the sport, game, players, equipment, are always changing. Football is no different. Since BCCI wasn’t Dynamic, complacent and forthcoming. ICL was born. Finally BCCI realised what they were missing and the behemoth happened, IPL. The Super League idea might be squashed due to the pressures, from powers that be. However, it will emerge again unless UEFA comes with better ideas to sustain the sport.

European super League was a very bad idea by these 12 clubs. This League would have made them rich but at the same time thousands of European clubs would have shut down because of them. Uefa and Fifa were absolutely right in condemning this act of the club’s.

The European Super League wasn’t the need of the hour anyways as there was always The Champions League where the top European teams played against each other. We would not enjoy Man Utd vs Barcelona Fc or a Liverpool vs Real Madrid match if they played twice or thrice every year. People look forward to these encounters. It was just for greed that the owners of the clubs wanted their club to compete in the ESL. The opposition from fans, players as well as ex players forced them to pull out. This resulted in owners stepping down from their post. After all football is nothing without fans. I’m happy now that I’ll get to see my club play again in the Domestic Competitions and in the UCL and also the players of different clubs play for their respective national teams. Glory Glory Man United!

The European Super League generated reactions from two sides, the management and the fans. The management found a readymade plan to bail their club out of the heavy financial losses caused by the Covid19 Pandemic. It would also help them in signing new players and pay salaries of the players. But from a fan point of view the details given out by Florentino Perez were not up to expectations. With a match of 4 quarters of 15 minutes each, the fun would have been lost. The reason in itself for the change was unacceptable saying that young fans were not enjoying long matches and wanted everything fast.
But overall it would have been financially very helpful with the financial package on offer; the clubs that have big losses and would have finally helped themselves match the likes of PSG and Manchester City.

If you are a football fan and you accept the European Super League, I would just say it’s a big shame. How can u just create a league where u participate without qualifying on merit. This wasn’t a league created for the betterment of football but rather for the betterment of greedy owners who see revenue and profits before the culture and values these clubs were established for. But that doesn’t mean FIFA and UEFA are the good guys. Hopefully these 2 governing bodies realise how greedy they have been all these years and bring about a change in world football.

Let me start by saying that I am a Man Utd fan and am appalled by the announcement of this ‘Super League.’ It would ruin football. However this is the culmination of 25 years of greed. Some of the reactions I have seen are ironic. Gary Neville, who has been the most vocal about his feelings, was part of a Man United team that preferred to play in the World Club Championships over the FA Cup. That cup has never recovered its prestige. Let’s not forget that the birth of the ‘Premier League’ had an eerily similar beginning to the Super League, with Sky TV being its biggest benefactor. The same Sky that is providing the platform for people like Neville to share their feelings, most likely because they will not be receiving the rights to show the new league.
When our clubs don’t spend tens of millions on new players, we moan. When our clubs don’t offer extravagant contracts to existing star players, we moan. We are all to blame just as much as these owners for the greed that has enveloped football.
