MAPUSA: Dempo Sports Club registered a fluent 3-1 win over Bidesh XI in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Friday.
New entrants Bidesh XI management seeing their team languishing at the bottom of the GPL table with just two points from six matches brought five new players in the starting XI and also signed Joyson Goes as their new team manager.
At the other end, Dempo SC coach Remus Gomes after their last match win against Churchill Brothers saw his squad time and again attack the rival citadel, which finally tasted success in the 42nd minute. A perfect cross by Topan Mini beat a host of rival defenders to find Mevan Dias nod the ball home, 1-0.
Earlier in the match, Bidesh XI custodian Cydon D’Souza brought two smart saves by fisting Dempo SC’s skipper Arnold Oliveria’s cross and then blocking Topan’s corner.
Another glorious chance went abegging in the 32nd minute, where Topan header off Jordan Borges cross landed into the waiting hands of Bidesh XI custodian. On crossing ends, Golden Eagles carried on their domination with substitute Necio Fernandes, who was left unmarked at the far post nodded Laximanrao Rane’s cross home, 2-0.
Bidesh XI should have reduced the margin two minutes later through skipper Fredsan Marshall however his stiff grounder went just past the far goal post.
As the match progressed, Bidesh XI goalkeeper Cydon brought two more superb saves to stop Shreyash Naik’s strong header entering the goal and minutes later pushing the ball for a corner with a full stretched diving save from Laximanrao’s stiff grounder.
At the other end in the 88th minute, finally, Bidesh XI reduced the margin with substitute Prathmesh Gaonkar’s presence being at the right place at the right time to direct his header off Fredsan cross into the goal to make it, 1-2. In the stoppage time, Laximanrao collecting a through pass from substitute Swavel Furtado darted inside the 18-yard box and sent the ball into the net, 3-1, and complete his brace.
